Westcroft Leisure Centre was built in the 1970s and underwent a £9m refurbishment to bring the facilities up to current standards. The work included a new 25m main pool and 15m training pool with a moveable floor, a large fitness gym with 140 workstations and a new library.
The brief included a requirement to dramatically reduce energy running costs with the latest energy-saving technologies including external over-cladding of the walls to improve the thermal performance. To reduce CO2 emissions, the building is ready for connection to the Hackbridge Energy Network, a sustainable district heating system powered by waste landfill gas.
