Tavistock Guildhall, Tavistock, Devon

  • Client:
    Tavistock Town Council
  • Architect:
    Gillespie Yunnie Architects
  • Value:
    £1.6m

Occupying a prominent position within the town, this project was comprised of the renovation and conversion of the Grade II* listed Tavistock Guildhall and former police station to create a ‘Gateway Centre’ intended to provide a hub for community services, a visitor information/interpretative display on the Mining World Heritage Site, and council offices.

The building has been altered many times with parts dating back to the medieval period while with other areas having been updated in the Victorian period.

The project was part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Devon Historic Building Trust (DHBT) and Tavistock Town Council (TTC). Method Consulting was employed to sensitively develop the design of the M&E systems in a way which is sustainable and sympathetic to the historic nature of the building.
