This project involved the refurbishment and extension of an existing surgery which more than doubled in size, providing new up to date facilities for the busy NHS community practice.

The works were phased with the existing surgery remaining in operation whilst the extension was constructed. We developed a detailed phasing plan with temporary services to ensure patient services were uninterrupted. The new consulting rooms are naturally ventilated but a new treatment room for minor operations has mechanical ventilation to comply with NHS standards.

A BREEAM Very Good rating was required for both the new extension and the refurbished areas by NHS funding rules.

The project was a winner of the RIBA East Award 2022.
