Method Consulting was appointed by Lincoln College to this project, which involved a complex internal refurbishment and extension to an existing Halls of Residence within a group of buildings in the centre of the city. The refurbishment included parts of a Grade II* listed coaching inn which dates from the 17th Century.
The works to refresh the 70 bedrooms included the addition of en-suite bathrooms and an update of the mechanical, electrical and other associated services. Access was improved throughout with the addition of a new entrance to the building.
Method undertook the options appraisal for several potential architectural schemes, including the simplification of complex fire escape route design, the sympathetic design of new centralised gas fired plant to replace electric heating and reduce carbon emission and thermal modelling of the rooms to confirm that a natural ventilation strategy could still achieve comfortable summer conditions.
