Redevelopment and revitalisation of two historically significant Grade II listed buildings—the Basset Centre and the White House—transforming them into a vibrant, multifunctional hub designed to serve diverse community needs.
A carefully considered programme of conservation, repair, and adaptation will respect and enhance the historic fabric of both buildings, balancing preservation with contemporary use. A new glazed entrance pavilion will connect the two structures, providing a clear, welcoming heart to the development and improving accessibility while creating a bright and legible arrival space.
The completed hub will deliver a wide range of facilities designed to meet the needs of people of all ages. A modern public library will provide access to books, digital technology, and quiet study spaces, supporting education and lifelong learning. Dedicated accommodation for young people, including an informal youth club and café, will offer a safe, inclusive environment that encourages social interaction and skill development.
A flexible performance and events space will support community activity, cultural events, and live performances, enabling the building to host everything from exhibitions and talks to music and theatre. Spaces dedicated to local heritage will celebrate Camborne’s identity and industrial past through displays, interpretation, and storytelling. In addition, a series of adaptable rooms will be available for meetings, training, workshops, and local organisations, ensuring the hub can evolve in response to changing community needs.
