Thomas Hardy Visitor Centre
Client: Dorset County Council and The National Trust
Architect: White Design
This project was to develop a new Heritage Lottery funded visitor centre situated close to Thomas Hardy’s house in Dorchester. The project vision was ‘to bring to life the unique story of Thomas Hardy’s formative years at the heart of his ‘Wessex’ landscape, and inspire interest in the work of this major literary figure’ and we were delighted to be part of this. Our expertise in the fields of heritage projects, visitor centres and HLF work allowed our team to be creative and find great solutions to inspire learning and enjoyment for people of all ages.
We were responsible for the full detailed design and sensitive integration of the mechanical and electrical services installation. We also helped prepare the sustainability brief for the project, which, among other things, included a log boiler for heating and hot water, LED lighting throughout and thermal compartmentalisation.
