The Railway Inn, Thatchers Cider

Client: Thatchers Cider

Architect: Alec French Architects

The Thatcher family have been making Thatchers Cider in Somerset since 1904 and acquired a local public house and associated land on which to build a new visitor centre. The original old inn was refurbished and extended to become a pub, restaurant and event destination for weddings and other celebrations. We provided the mechanical and electrical design and sustainability services for the £2m project. Thatchers have installed a biomass boiler in one of their existing buildings which is connected into in order to provide a biomass district heating scheme for the new and refurbished facilities.

The new visitor centre is a low energy designed building making good use of natural daylight in order to provide a bright space, with reduced need for electric lighting.
