Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy (iPACA) is a new £18m all-through school; the first secondary school on the island, with pupils, previously having to travel to Weymouth for their post-11 education.

The ESFA-funded project included the conversion and refurbishment of a large 1940s former Ministry of Defence building, together with a new build sports hall, and provides modern, state-of-the-art facilities.

We undertook a detailed survey in order to design the reconfiguration of complex M&E services to separately-tenanted adjacent areas and using building physics modelling, we provided advice to ensure that summertime overheating could be avoided within a predominantly naturally ventilated scheme. A BREEAM rating of Very Good was required in the new-build and refurbished areas.
