Great Western Park Community Centre, Didcot
Client: Beard Construction
Architect: Bush Consultancy
This 1000m² new community centre has been commissioned by a consortium of housing developers to serve a new development of 3,300 homes at Great Western Park in Didcot. The multi-function building includes a café, a Thames Valley Police office, a crèche, offices for Citizens Advice and a large auditorium suitable for a wide variety of events and groups, with a catering kitchen.
We used specialist software to analyse the building to check the environmental performance of the spaces and to optimise the building fabric standards and ventilation systems. The building is naturally ventilated using roof-mounted windcatchers and as a result, it will be comfortable in summer and winter with the risk of overheating minimised. Underfloor heating helps to ensure spaces are flexible, with no intrusive radiators in the spaces. Our service included the full detailed design of the M&E services, building physics, energy modelling and EPC.
