Camden Centre for Learning

Client: London Borough of Camden

Architect: Architype

BREEAM: Very Good

There are three specialist services in Camden that provide support for secondary aged children and young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and the Camden Centre for Learning was designed to provide new facilities for 100 pupils at Key Stages 3 and 4. The new £3m school required a Very Good BREEAM rating with Bespoke 2008 being used to assess the mixture of new build and refurbished areas. Of traditional construction, the new spaces complement the existing with a far more effective use of space.

The roof-mounted PV array helps to meet the London Plan requirement for a carbon reduction of 40% on the Part L Target Emission Rate.

Our BREEAM specialists worked closely with the design team to advise on the most economical route to achieve Very Good, within the complexities of a Special Educational Needs school.
