Bridge Yard Clifton Suspension Bridge

Client: Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust

Architect: Alec French Architects

Brunel’s world-famous Clifton Suspension Bridge is a Grade I listed structure with over four million vehicle crossings per year and many visitors coming on foot.

The £2.5m HLF funded Bridge Yard project delivered a new visitor centre and maintenance buildings on the existing site and included a high-efficiency air source heat pump heating system to achieve a 10% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. We worked very closely with the architects to develop a bespoke lighting scheme to highlight the interactive educational facilities.

The Visitor Centre opened on the 150th anniversary of the 1864 opening of the bridge. We provided thermal modelling, building physics, sustainability and M&E engineering services input on this project.
