Client: UWC Atlantic College
Architect: Burrell Foley Fischer LLP
United World Colleges of the Atlantic is a residential sixth form located at the 12th century St Donat’s castle near Llantwit Major, overlooking the Bristol channel on the south coast of Wales. The £5m project included the refurbishment of the library, the Great Hall and the conversion of the Grade I listed Cavalry Barracks into student residential accommodation. Given the great historical importance attached to the site great care was required in all restoration and modification works to ensure that the conversion was sympathetic.
We worked closely with the architect and the local conservation officer to ensure all refurbishment works were in line with the heritage and conservation guidelines. Attention to detail and coordination with the design team was essential to ensure that the services design was appropriate and our experience in conservation of historic buildings allowed us to ensure this was the case.
We provided mechanical, electrical and sustainability design services.
