Stockwood Almshouse is a £9m, new-build development in south Bristol providing 60, high-quality one and two-bed flats with additional extra care facilities and external landscaped areas. The flats are designed to meet ‘Lifetimes Homes’ and Housing Quality Indicator standards and are designed to enable older people and those with a physical or mental impairment to live independently in their own homes.

The building has been carefully designed with high-end fittings to be functional whilst maintaining a homely, non-institutional feel. Communal boiler plant reduces the carbon emissions from the development with heat interface units within each flat allowing the residents full control over their environmental conditions. All services are designed to be robust, simple to use and easy to maintain with low running costs.

We have provided mechanical and electrical engineering design, sustainability and BREEAM services for the project. By applying the principles of building physics and with the help of a 26 kW PV array, an overall 33% carbon reduction over the Building Regulations requirements was achieved with a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’.
