Felsted School offers boys and girls aged four to eighteen an all-round education, based on an 80 acre campus in Essex. It offers a boarding school education, plus offer day and contemporary boarding options.
Its new teaching block provides new classrooms, a large flexible learning space, break-out spaces and informal study areas grouped around a large central atrium. We undertook detailed modelling of the building to optimise the natural ventilation and daylighting strategy to ensure we provide comfortable conditions all year round with the risk of overheating minimised.
The site was congested so we developed a programme to divert existing below ground services to enable the development. A roof PV array meets the local authority requirement for 10% renewable energy on site and helps to reduce CO2 emissions and running costs.
